A sealcoating machine is a big and nessecary investement for any parking lot striping company. The price ranges so much but you'll probably spend in the range between $3,000 and $5,000. I recommend that you take your time to look over all of your options to choose one that is right for you so that you can get started and also grow your parking lot striping business.
Some people that want to or are considering getting into the parking lot striping business may think about spreading the asphalt by hand to save money at first but that is a mistake. There are many advantages to using a sealcoating machine including the fact that it takes much less time and that spreading the asphalt by looking does not look professional in any way. Also, getting the job done as soon as possible makes the person who contracted you satisfied but it also frees you up to move on to other potential jobs.
Parking Lot Striping Machine
The price for an entry level parking lot striping machine will begin at about $1,000 to $1,500. You can use these machines to paint straight lines on any asphalt, concrete surfaces or fields.
My favorite work setup is a pickup truck with a enclosed cargo trailer with a ramp gate. This allows you to keep your equipment dry and safe and both the pickup truck and the trailer can be used for advertising.
Trailers are one those items that you can get by with buying it used when starting your business. The price for a used enclosed trailer with a ramp can begin at about $1,500 if you're lucky.
Clean up is an important part of both prepping the asphalt surface for sealcoating and crack repair as well as leaving the parking lot presentable after you've done the job so you'll want to get a blower. When you're just starting, you can get by with one or a few hand blowers.
Once you start to make more money or take on bigger jobs, you will want to consider getting a more powerful blower.
You can expect to around $50 for a simple hand held leaf blower.
I recommend getting the 36 inch orange, reflective and fluorescent cones but you should be able to get by with smaller ones when your'e starting since you probably will not be working on bigger lots at the beginning. Having at least 6 to 10 to begin with is a good idea, but it all depends on the size of the lot.
The cost of smaller traffic cones is about $10 each.
Some of the most common uses for stencils are for numbers, letters and handicap parking areas. When you start you can begin by getting these at around a total of $175 for all of these. You can always buy different and more stencils later as your parking lot striping business grows.
You can also learn to make your own stencils but when you're just starting out you should probably just buy them to save yourself time.
When painting a parking lot, the first thing is to make sure that the parking lot that you are going to paint is clean. You may need to power wash the area to clear it of dirt and debris. Paint will obviously not adhere to wet pavement as easily. It is also important to let the pavement completely dry before painting the area.
You will also need other supplies, for example, rollers, brushes, paint trays, spray paint, measuring tape, marking paint or crayon, angle tool, roll of rope for marking long straight lines and cardboard. These items can be bought at your local hardware for a total of about $100.
